Week 10: RPR (folk) with local opener Realtime Dixieland Band
ABOUT THE ARTIST: It’s a powerhouse band of contrasts, subtleties, humour, and the agility to go from full rampage to a whisper in a heartbeat. It’s that combination of vigour, poignancy and personality upon which RPR’s reputation is built; arresting music, stories, laughter- and some astonishing vocal harmonies. This is a band that’s much easier to listen to than they are to describe. If they lived 150 miles to the south they’d be called “Americanca,” but even a cursory listen will tell you they are most definitely Canadian. A concert goer described their sound as Crosby, Stils andl Nash meets Pink floyd, and while not everything they do would fall into that Venn diagram, it’s not bad.
